Two years ago, Costco discontinued its Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips. Neither the red (dairy) nor the blue (dairy-free) bags were restocked because Costco cited rising cocoa prices, making it difficult for the warehouse to price the bags competitively. Since then, Costco has replaced the Kirkland brand with Nestlé Toll House chips, and some customers “refused to buy Nestlé chocolate chips.” More shoppers were dissatisfied with the substitution, saying, “I’ve been a scrooge with my last bag (I refuse to buy Nestlé products).” But the days of rationing Kirkland chocolate chips may be over. Members have recently started to spot bags of the Kirkland semi-sweet chocolate chips at their local warehouses, and it’s causing fans to celebrate. Right now, it looks like only the red bag is making a comeback in certain regions—sorry, dairy-free bakers. Some shoppers in Texas were able to view inventory in the Costco app. Others spotted pallets of the chips in Milford, CT, and Leesburg, VA, among other locations. Depending on your location, you might be able to pick up one of the 4.5-pound bags. It’s not yet confirmed when or where the chips will be distributed, so it’s best to check the Costco app or call your local store for availability.
